Starting this fall (2010), the City of Dayton will no longer be providing curbside leaf collection. This means that residents will no longer be able to simply blow or rake the leaves to the curb, but will have to go to the additional work of placing them in bags.
For those residents who are not able to bag their leaves (or are not interested in doing this themselves), Feed Dayton will be providing this service. Although a fee will be charged for clearing leaves from lawns, rates will be competitive, and this will provide a way for us to fund our program without having to ask for donations.
You get your leaves cleared from your lawn, we raise needed funds for our program, and our farm sites get the materials that will be collected . . . it is a win win win opportunity.
If you are interested in having Feed Dayton remove the leaves from your lawn this fall, or would at least like to receive a quote, please fill out the form on our contact page. It is important that you contact us no later than Oct. 1st, to ensure a spot on our schedule. Early registration could also help lower our prices, when we sign up residents who live close to each other.
We are also looking for potential sites for storing the leaves we collect, as well as additional sites to grow food on. If you own, or know of, a vacant lot in Dayton that you would like to see buried with shredded leaves and/or wood chips . . . and then possibly used next year to raise food for the hungry of our area, please let us know. We will visit the site, and see if it would be a good fit for our organization and the community.
Remember: The sooner we hear from you, the easier it will be to make out a schedule. The more people we sign up from a particular street, the lower we can keep our prices. Most important of all . . . hiring Feed Dayton to clean up your leaves, helps us grow high nutrition produce for the hungry of our area!
